‘on campus events’
Holi
Apr. 10, 2011—Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, is one of the most popular celebrations of the year for people of the Hindu faith. It is considered one of the happiest days of the year and this past Saturday, Vanderbilt’s Masala-SACE student organization hosted their very own Holi event on the lawn in front of...
Make it work!
Apr. 5, 2011—This evening, I went to see Tim Gunn speak at the Langford Auditorium here at Vanderbilt. Tim Gunn is a fashion consultant best known for his mentorship to competing designers on the hit TV show Project Runway. He’s also Liz Claiborne’s chief creative officer and the author of two books.
My New Favorite Subject: Neuroscience!
Mar. 30, 2011—This semester, I’m taking Neuroscience with Dr. Leslie Smith. I kind of enrolled on a whim, since the Cognitive Psychology class I wanted was full. Let me just go ahead and say that I’m now planning on majoring in Neuroscience; that’s how awesome it is.
Dinner in the U.K.!
Mar. 27, 2011—Last Wednesday, I ate dinner in the United Kingdom…without having to leave Vanderbilt campus.
Are You Ready for Some Football?
Feb. 25, 2011—Ok, so maybe I’m a little early, but I am getting excited for next football season. Wednesday night, new Head Football Coach, James Franklin, was invited to speak at Gillette Gelato. Gillette Gelato, held every Wednesday night, is a chance for the residents of Gillette to socialize with each other and their residential staff, over...
The Nashville Intercollegiate Activism Conference
Feb. 21, 2011—Last Thursday, the Vanderbilt Political Review (VPR) hosted the Nashville Intercollegiate Activism Conference (NIAC). Being the treasurer for VPR, I was somewhat active in putting on this conference and was really excited to see it finally happen.
An hour of calm.
Feb. 2, 2011—College is stressful. This is particularly true of Mondays for me, as I have class from 9-4 with only an hour break, and then a meeting afterwards. By the time I make it through two more classes on Tuesday, I tend to feel a little stressed that the week isn’t even halfway over.
NINE
Jan. 22, 2011—Keepin’ it short and sweet here. I went to see Vanderbilt Off Broadway’s (VOB) production of NINE: The Musical tonight at Blair (after journeying to the wrong part of campus… One could logically assume a musical would be in the “theater.”), and it was phenomenal. There were parts where a few singers were pitchy, or...
Music and Food…Who Knew?!
Jan. 18, 2011—“Commons Seminars are optional, one-credit, spring-semester seminars for first-year undergraduates only. The semester calendar can be flexible (weekly, bi-monthly, over several weekends) and courses meet for the equivalent of fifteen contact hours. They are open to first-year students from all four undergraduate schools and colleges and have no pre-requisites.” (http://commonplace.vanderbilt.edu/?s=0&v=11)
Outside of Greek Life
Jan. 17, 2011—This week, about 50% of the women in the class of 2014 participated in Panhellenic Recruitment, which ended with yesterday’s Bid Day. The week was full of fun activities and girls were extremely busy mingling with sorority sisters and finding the right house for them. All five of my closest friends went through recruitment and...
