Music and Food…Who Knew?!

“Commons Seminars are optional, one-credit, spring-semester seminars for first-year undergraduates only. The semester calendar can be flexible (weekly, bi-monthly, over several weekends) and courses meet for the equivalent of fifteen contact hours. They are open to first-year students from all four undergraduate schools and colleges and have no pre-requisites.” (http://commonplace.vanderbilt.edu/?s=0&v=11)In an effort to boost my GPA and learn about something new and interesting, I enrolled in Music and Food, a Blair Commons Seminar taught by Professor Barz, for Blair, and Camp Howard, Director of Vanderbilt Dining.

I went to our first meeting today without a clue about music, food, or how the two could possibly be related. I left our first meeting with knowledge on the two most famous female sopranos of the early 20th century and new recipes for Chicken Tetrazzini and Peach Melba (which were named after these two singers). The best part of the class was going to the Production Kitchen in the basement of the Commons Dining Hall and making and eating our own Peach Melba!

Why is Vanderbilt so awesome?
