Tips for First-Years

Jul. 9, 2013—After my own first year at Vanderbilt, I kind of forgot about the anxiety and anticipation that leads up to move-in. But, this year, with my sister preparing for her first year at Vanderbilt, and all of her friends leaving to schools around the country, my house is full of the same stress and nerves that I brought home three years ago. I remember wishing that I knew older Vanderbilt students, who could give me advice, or even just calm me down. Here are a few things that all first years should remember.

What Now?

Jun. 29, 2013—If I am being honest, my blogging has been quite sporadic this summer. I am usually a regular blogger and I try to set a posting schedule for myself each semester. Thus far this summer, however, I have been traveling, which has left me with inconsistent internet access. Both of my trips were absolutely amazing (thank you parents!), but now I am back stateside for the foreseeable future. There is only one thing left for me do to this summer: apply to medical school.

Dores are Everywhere

Jun. 26, 2013—For the past two weeks, my family and I have been traveling Europe. The trip served as a celebration for my sister's graduation and my parents' anniversary. The National Music Festival

Jun. 17, 2013—Two weeks flew by at the National Music Festival. This two-week program is located in quaint little Chestertown, where the locals live in beautiful old houses by the waterfront. Host families and Washington College generously housed the hundred students who all came with full tuition and housing scholarships from all over the United States and abroad.

What I Learned

Jun. 11, 2013—I spent the past four weeks in Solola, Guatemala interning with Manna Project International. I worked with six other amazing interns and we were supervised by four long-term program directors. My time in Guatemala definitely ranks high as one of the best months of my life. Despite the lack of running water and clean meat to eat, I made some amazing friends and learned a lot about the world and about myself.

Relaxation Station

May. 29, 2013—I've been home in sunny Naples, Florida for a little under a month now and I think I've officially recovered the sleep debt built up over last semester. Being home has been wonderfully relaxing but I've also reached the point where my mind is not quite comprehending why I've had so few things to do.
