The Beginning of a Beautiful (Peabody) Relationship
Apr. 15, 2014—Last semester, I applied for the Peabody Scholars program. I pushed myself all semester to qualify for the GPA of 3.6 or above, and I wrote a brief essay of application. In December I was thrilled to be accepted, along with 14 other students in the Peabody College of Education and Human Development. What is...
Stressed? Here’s What You Can Do
Mar. 21, 2014—College students face many stressors, usually related to jobs, family, finances, Greek life, residential life, keeping up appearances, worries about the future (grad school, finding a partner, starting a career), academics, and relationships, including friendships. It's a long list, with an equally long list of accompanying feelings/emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions, which contribute to behaviors in response to stress. Here are some tips for managing the stress in your life!
The Community in HOD
Feb. 16, 2014—We all know that Vanderbilt is one of the nation's greatest learning institutions. It's a hub of intellectual development. One reason why I love coming to school here is that in my classes, I not only gain that cognitive fact, but they teach me how to nullify the contradiction between learning and living.
Winternship
Jan. 29, 2014—Winternship is not the summation of win and internship, but rather WINTER and internship. Winter in Chicago is not for the faint of heart, and they really weren’t kidding when they nicknamed this place the Windy City. The big question I have been getting recently is, “Why, again, did you decide to move to Chicago during the coldest season of the year?” They smirk. I stare at them blankly. I DON’T KNOW.
Transitions
Dec. 10, 2013—Next semester I get the scary-cool opportunity to take a break from Vanderbilt's campus and intern in the campus recruiting department for Deloitte in Chicago. This will serve as my HOD internship, a requirement for my degree program that sort of acts as a capstone project.
Teaching at Peabody
Dec. 9, 2013—I have recently realized just how little I knew about what it took to become a teacher before I came to Vanderbilt. I did not know anything about the steps that were taken, and the different nuances you could receive in your degree. I had never had anyone spell it out for me, so I wanted to give all potential future Peabody-attendees a summary of what to look forward to in the upcoming years...
#TBT Visiting Vanderbilt
Nov. 8, 2013—Today marks one year since I set foot on the Vanderbilt campus for the first time. After four days in Nashville last November, I knew where I wanted to go to college. (And the first thing I did when I returned home was finish the application essays!) So why did I choose Vanderbilt? And why Nashville?
Chaos!!!!
Sep. 17, 2013—The beginning of this semester has been so chaotic that I haven't even had the time to write my first blog until almost a month after the semester started! I love beginning a new year because it means seeing old friends again, starting to acquire new knowledge, and taking on new projects. This semester in particular I have been revamping my life a little bit and am embarking on several new uses for my time...
Tax Free Weekend: Round 2
Aug. 5, 2013—It's that time of the year in Tennessee when everyone is out shopping trying to save a few dollars where they can. If you go back to this time last year, you'll find that I participated on the retail side of Tax Free Weekend shopping for the first time with MacAuthority.
Practicing For My Future Practice
May. 27, 2013—For the first time, I am writing an Inside Dores blog post from the comfort of my own bedroom in Geneva, Switzerland. :) I wanted to update everyone on my plans for the next couple of weeks, and how they all got started at Vanderbilt…
