Why Vanderbilt?

Mar. 27, 2012—Every once in a while I reminisce back to those wonderful (ha!) months of high school during which I googled different universities every day, wrote personal statements, and stressed about SAT scores…maybe more so now because soon I will have to do the same thing to apply to graduate school…and I remember discussions I had...

Final Projects

Mar. 26, 2012—For better or for worse, there are a lot of indicators that I’m becoming an upperclassman (see Figure 1). I have a lot of (sometimes unwanted) responsibilities in ROTC, I’m finding myself considering leadership in multiple school organizations, and my schoolwork is maturing from problem sets to more design and analysis-based projects.

IMPACT.

Mar. 21, 2012—Tonight, I went to IMPACT, a symposium organized by the Speaker’s Committee. This year’s theme was Rise of the REst: WHat is the Future of American Foreign Policy?. The three night symposium came to a close after tonight’s engaging discussion between former Governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, and the former President of Mexico, Vicente...

Why Vanderbilt?

Mar. 11, 2012—With Spring Break last week, I got to go home and catch up with a bunch of my friends still in high school. Since most of them are second-semester seniors, I grilled them all about college. Hearing this whole process again reminded me why I chose to come to Vanderbilt in the first place,

How I Know the Robots Are After Me

Mar. 1, 2012—Earlier in the semester (MUCH earlier), I talked about my first day of Mechatronics class. I mentioned the kit we’d be working with, complete with Arduino micro-controller, circuit components, and other such tools. Each week in February (the kits came into the bookstore late), we’ve had an assignment involving creating or modifying code for the...

OutDores

Feb. 26, 2012—Near the end of last year, as sophomore year housing was becoming an issue, I was offered a spot in a VIP (Vanderbilt Interest Project) by a friend of mine from ROTC. The VIP’s are a somewhat diluted version of the Mayfield Projects, with less group commitment in exchange for guaranteed housing in a less...

Dinner with Chancellor Zeppos

Feb. 24, 2012—Last night, I had the privilege of visiting the Chancellor’s mansion in Belle Meade, which is about 5 miles from campus. A group of students were randomly selected to join Chancellor Zeppos at his second home for dinner and a small reception. At 5:30 yesterday evening, there were shuttles waiting for us to take us...
