‘winter break’
My Writing Experiences at Vanderbilt (Part I)
Jan. 21, 2020—Happy Spring 2020! I hope everyone had a lovely winter break. During the break, I met with my family members, friends, and teachers, including my favorite middle school teacher who asked me about college writing. Her question and our following conversation resonated with a blog idea I had in Fall 2019: writing at Vanderbilt based...
The Five People You Meet During Finals
Dec. 18, 2015—And yes, those are my mechanism-covered whiteboards. I’m very proud of them. They helped me get a good grade in Orgo this semester, although I think they’re less Beautiful Mind and more like that scene in 21 Jump Street where Channing Tatum draws 4s all over the board in his Chemistry class
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Dec. 13, 2015—Ah, finals. A season during which you can catch the college student in their most natural state (which, for me, is wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt that’s four sizes too big, hair unwashed, sitting curled up in a coffee shop somewhere as if my appearance is at all socially acceptable and frantically copying notes).
Semester Two, Semester New
Jan. 22, 2015—New classes, long lines at the post office, and even a couple of sunny days this week – this can only mean one thing. IT’S SEMESTER TWO Y’ALL. Chronicles of Narnia: the Student, the Shift, and the Family
Dec. 24, 2014—Going home for the holidays might not be what you expected it to be. Sure wasn't for me the first time.
First Semester Highlights
Dec. 17, 2014—A look back at some of the highlights from my first semester at Vandy
7 Questions to Stop Asking Your College Student
Nov. 27, 2014—Upon being home for several days, it has dawned on me that not every conversation back home is created equal. The reality of being home for college students is that there are many acquaintances and high school friends' moms' cousins' aunts to answer to when the barrage of career and education-related questions are inevitably hurled our way. It's good to ask university-folk about what they've been up to, but here are a few things to consider not asking around the dinner table this holiday. Your sleep-deprived college student will thank you.
School’s Out!
Jan. 7, 2014—Can you believe it? Neither could we: Vanderbilt cancelled classes yesterday!
I went bowling!
Jan. 7, 2014—This past Saturday, my sister and I met up with some of my friends in Birmingham, AL to watch the Commodores take on the University of Houston Cougars at the BBVA Compass Bowl. I had never been to an away game before, although I guess this was technically considered a neutral field. It was the perfect ending to my last football game as a student.
Family Vacation to Arizona!
Dec. 31, 2013—After arriving home from AWB, I had about two days to settle in Alabama before I was en route to my next destination: Arizona.
