Move In- from the Parents’ Perspective
Aug. 19, 2013—This post was actually co-authored by my parents (Jeff and Leslie) who moved in TWO children to Vanderbilt this weekend. They are now empty nesters. Here is their story: Four years ago, when our eldest daughter, Erica, chose Vanderbilt, we knew almost nothing about the school or the city. The entire family was in for...
Moving in for the Last Time
Aug. 15, 2013—Today, my dad and I left Miami Beach bright and early. We were planning to drive to Chattanooga and spend the night there before picking up my mom and sister at the airport early Friday morning. As it turns out, we were in Chattanooga by 4:30 PM and we decided to drive the final two...
Miami Summer Send-Off
Aug. 6, 2013—This past Sunday, over 100 Vanderbilt students, families and alumni gathered at the beautiful LaGorce Country Club in Miami Beach for the Annual Summer Send-Off. Since 1968, these send-offs have been held in many major cities across the country. They are sponsored by local alumni chapters and honor first-year students. The send-off was a great...
Intern Life- Doing the Job
Aug. 5, 2013—So once I secured my super fantastic internship at redpepper, what was next? Well, dear reader, don't worry--I'm here to share just what I did with my time at rp.
Intern Life- Getting the Job
Aug. 3, 2013—Thursday marked the last day of my internship at ad agency redpepper, and I am terribly sad to leave. I had an absolutely amazing time, spending every Tuesday and Thursday of my summer in Nashville there, and I'm definitely planning on visiting during the school year, since redpepper is just off of West End--only a ten minute walk from where I'm living next semester!
A Visit from a Fellow Commodore
Aug. 1, 2013—The Vanderbubble really is a small world. When I arrived in Guatemala this summer as a Program Intern for Manna Project International, I was shocked to learn that one of my bosses, Nicole, a 13-month Program Director, actually graduated from Vanderbilt in 2012. Although we both learned about Manna through Vanderbilt’s active chapter on campus,...
Questions to Ask Yourself in College
Jul. 26, 2013—Questions I wish someone had told me to ask myself when I first started college.
The Waiting Game
Jul. 19, 2013—The waiting game is my least favorite game. But, sometimes, it is a game I am forced to play. This time around, I am waiting for secondary applications from medical schools. After I receive and submit those, my work will be subject to another round of screening before I hopefully receive invitations to interview. Here, I share with you how I have been passing the time.
The Commons Explained
Jul. 14, 2013—So, when I was a freshman, housing assignments were mailed on August 1st. We received a packet with our house, room number, room mate and details about the move-in process. Apparently, this year, students could log into their meal-plan selection and figure out which their house. I am sure that this has created quite the buzz on social media, so here is a little bit about all ten houses on the Commons that will hopefully ease some anxieties.
When Your Mom Visits (Version 2.0)
Jul. 10, 2013—As I mentioned earlier, my mom was here this past week! Whenever my mom comes, we try and do some exploring--either a new part of town, or Nashville classics that I might not always have a chance to get to during the school year. Thus, I present to you a list of the things my mom and I did while she was here this time. Consider it your own personal list of things to do when you visit Nashville.
