ASB “Hangin’ Around” in Kyle, South Dakota and Area
Mar. 23, 2012—*Co-authored by Samantha Orland* For Alternative Spring Break this year, we went to Kyle, South Dakota to live on the Pine Ridge reservation of the Lakota Sioux and to assist in a local elementary school. The 26.5 hour car ride definitely led to ASBonding, and the service made us feel like we could make a difference, even for just a week, in the lives of the children on the reservation.

I participated in an organization called Alternate Spring Break (ASB) where students travel to different sites domestically and abroad to engage in a week of service. This is definitely a longer blog, but it doesn't even cover HALF the things I wanted to say about this great organization. If you are interested in learning about a unique way to spend your spring break during your time at Vanderbilt (because you should come to Vandy!), then read on!
The One Question Every Prospective Student Wants to Know
Mar. 19, 2012—Besides “how’s the food here?”– there is one question that is central to any prospective (or simply curious) student’s inquiries. I’m here to answer for you, in my humble opinion.
Girls on the Run
Mar. 16, 2012—This semester, I started volunteering for Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run is a national organization that teaches girls about self-esteem, positive relationships and healthy living.
My Spring Break
Mar. 12, 2012—This spring break, I decided to go home and spend time with my family and high school friends, who were also home from their respective universities for break. This break was also awesome because some of my Vanderbilt friends came home with me, too!
Why Vanderbilt?
Mar. 11, 2012—With Spring Break last week, I got to go home and catch up with a bunch of my friends still in high school. Since most of them are second-semester seniors, I grilled them all about college. Hearing this whole process again reminded me why I chose to come to Vanderbilt in the first place,
