RITES OF SPRING 2012!
Feb. 28, 2012—As the short winter here begins to fade and we start to get some random 75 and sunny days–typical of Nashville in the springtime–students start to anticipate the announcement of the Rites of Spring lineup….And I’m happy to announce that it’s OUT!!
Spirit of Uganda
Feb. 27, 2012—Tonight, I ended up going to an event at Langford Auditorium, part of Vanderbilt’s “Great Performances” series. I hadn’t planned on going until my friends convinced me at the last minute, and I am so very glad they did. The Spirit of Uganda is the public face of Empower African Children, a foundation dedicated to...
Predators Game!
Feb. 26, 2012—This past Thursday night was College Night at the Predators hockey game at Brigestone Arena. Some friends and I took advantage of the discounted tickets and made a night of it!
OutDores
Feb. 26, 2012—Near the end of last year, as sophomore year housing was becoming an issue, I was offered a spot in a VIP (Vanderbilt Interest Project) by a friend of mine from ROTC. The VIP’s are a somewhat diluted version of the Mayfield Projects, with less group commitment in exchange for guaranteed housing in a less...
Dinner with Chancellor Zeppos
Feb. 24, 2012—Last night, I had the privilege of visiting the Chancellor’s mansion in Belle Meade, which is about 5 miles from campus. A group of students were randomly selected to join Chancellor Zeppos at his second home for dinner and a small reception. At 5:30 yesterday evening, there were shuttles waiting for us to take us...
From Carnival to Karneval
Feb. 20, 2012—While studying abroad in France, I had the great opportunity to hop the country border over to Germany to go visit my cousins in Dusseldorf and celebrate Karneval with them. This was an especially interesting experience for me because I took a course called “From Carnival to Carnivalesque” from Prof. Robert Barsky last semester, and...
Vanderbilt Hockey
Feb. 20, 2012—It’s around this time of year that I get a little homesick for the North. Although I love the South dearly, winter sports just isn’t their strong suit down here!
The Happiest Place on Earth?!
Feb. 19, 2012—This past Friday was Vanderbilt’s Dance Marathon–a night where Vanderbilt students spend 13.1 hours on their feet in support of Vanderbilt’s Children’s Hospital. Each year as a part of Dance Marathon, there is a silent auction where all of the proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital as well.
A Freshman in Disguise: Move Crew 2011
Feb. 19, 2012—If you ask any undergraduate student about the day he or she first moved to college, he or she can give you a clear account of that eventful day. Mainly, this is due to the excitement, anticipation, and possibly fears of moving into a new home. However, if you ask a Vanderbilt student, all the students remember move in day because of Move Crew.
Viva Las Vandy!
Feb. 15, 2012—I realized the other day that I neglected to post about Viva Las Vandy!–an event that transformed the Commons Center into Las Vegas last Friday night. (Actually, it was the Friday before that, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of that link.)
