Fourth of July in Nashville
Jul. 10, 2011—Typically I spend my Fourth of July weekend with my extended family in Chicago, Illinois but this summer was a little different. As I have mentioned before in previous posts, I have a research position on campus here at Vanderbilt University this summer and I decided to spend the holiday in Nashville this summer.
Taps & Tapas
May. 4, 2011—My favorite dinner spot around campus is definitely Hillsboro Village. There are a bunch of restaurants, ranging from McDougal’s (Chicken strips) to Zumi (sushi), Fido (American food in a hipster atmosphere) to Provence (sandwiches, soups, and delicious desserts). This past weekend, I took a Finals Study Break and ventured into one of the newer restaurants,...
Rites of Spring
Apr. 18, 2011—This past weekend was Rites of Spring. “What is Rites of Spring?” you may ask. Only the biggest, funnest (look it up, it’s in the dictionary now) concert held at Vanderbilt each year. It lasts for two days and features multiple artists of different genres.
Random Weekend Festivities
Mar. 27, 2011—This weekend was randomly busy for me, but in a very fun, I-didn’t-do-much-actual-homework kind of way! Friday was the AOII formal, and then Saturday kicked off with the Inaugural I-40 Faceoff: Vandy vs. UT hockey game!
4:30am Wake Up Calls, Chasing Boys, and Sisterly Bonding – It must be Derby Days!
Mar. 24, 2011—Every year on Vanderbilt’s campus there is a week where sleep becomes non-existent for sorority girls from the hours of 4:30am on, it is not unusual to see a girl pop out of a bush next to you when you are walking down Alumni Lawn to class, and all that loud music, yeah, it’s coming...
Let’s catch up!
Mar. 18, 2011—As I’ve been thrown right back into school after spring break, I’ve neglected to share a lot of pre-spring break events here! Here are a few things I went to that were awesome–and keep an eye out for my upcoming post on the mission trip I went on over Spring Break!
Class helped me meet a celebrity…
Mar. 10, 2011—Piggybacking off of what fellow blogger Lindsey Rothrock talked about in her post “Homework: Go to a Concert”, I have been in three music classes (American Music, African Music, and Blues) where I have had to attend concerts and write small papers on them. These active assignments encourage students to explore Nashville for what it...
Spring Awakening
Feb. 27, 2011—This past weekend, my favorite musical was in town: Spring Awakening. Being the devoted fan I am, I saw it twice in less than 24 hours. I know that sounds a little crazy/stalker-like, so let me explain.
Homework: Go to a Concert
Feb. 23, 2011—I am taking an awesome class this semester! History of Rock Music. Not only is it really fun and interesting but it also counts as part of my Liberal Arts requirements. In class we talk about specific artists ranging from the 1950s to current times including Little Richard, Elvis, Otis Redding, Grateful Dead, Lynard Skynard,...
