Riding the Wave
Feb. 10, 2011—Whew. What a crazy week it’s been. Last Thursday, I had my first test in Calculus for the semester. Then, on Tuesday, I had a test for Neuroscience in the morning, and a test for Chemistry that night, not to mention I had lab and another class that day too. To wrap it up, I...
Shadowing a Doctor
Feb. 8, 2011—Vanderbilt AED, the pre-health professions club here, sponsors a shadowing program, through which undergraduate students are paired with physicians at the Vanderbilt medical center. The doctors allow the students to shadow them, or follow them through their daily routine. Getting matched with a shadow is very competitive, especially for freshmen, just because there are so...
Passport Ball
Feb. 5, 2011—Every year, the Commons hosts a huge event with elaborate buffets and entertainment. Though it is open to all students, this signature events of the Commons celebrates the freshman class. This year, the event was dubbed “The Passport Ball,” and it celebrated the diversity in the Class of 2014.
An hour of calm.
Feb. 2, 2011—College is stressful. This is particularly true of Mondays for me, as I have class from 9-4 with only an hour break, and then a meeting afterwards. By the time I make it through two more classes on Tuesday, I tend to feel a little stressed that the week isn’t even halfway over.
Laundry
Jan. 31, 2011—I haven’t posted in a few days, so I figured I should take a moment to update you on my life. I don’t really have any exciting weekend stories to share. I spent my Saturday enjoying the BEAUTIFUL weather and playing frisbee on Peabody lawn. Most of Sunday, I worked on my first speech for...
Sorority Perks
Jan. 30, 2011—As a member of Vanderbilt’s varsity Women’s Lacrosse team, I hope to offer a new perspective to the blogging site by providing information about activities, services, and service opportunities both inside and outside of athletics. Having just gone through sorority recruitment, I would like to focus this first blog on my participation in Greek Life.
Laser tag, cardboard igloos, and blueberry pancakes.
Jan. 30, 2011—Friday nights are probably my favorite time of the week in college. Classes are finished, but it’s still too early to need to worry about homework for Monday. This week I had been looking forward to Friday night because of the prospect of laser tag. I went with the youth group from Rolling Hills Community...
Speed Dating
Jan. 28, 2011—Last Wednesday, I did speed dating…with the sophomores in my sorority! Since sophomores will be paired with new members in a few weeks and become their “Big,” the two classes needed to get to know each other better.
Student Health
Jan. 27, 2011—The Varicella titer is necessary for anybody interested in shadowing a doctor or volunteering at the Vanderbilt Medical Center. I intend on shadowing a doctor this semester (more on that in a future post), so I went to the Student Health Center to get it.
Let it snow!
Jan. 25, 2011—As a Florida girl, I don’t have much experience with snow. I’d seen it a few times before coming to Vanderbilt, but this year has been the first time I’ve lived in it. And I love it. Every time I see those flakes cover campus in a soft white blanket, I have to go outside....
