Passport Ball

Every year, the Commons hosts a huge event with elaborate buffets and entertainment. Though it is open to all students, this signature events of the Commons celebrates the freshman class. This year, the event was dubbed “The Passport Ball,” and it celebrated the diversity in the Class of 2014.At the Passport Ball, we traveled to five nations: Brazil, Greece, India, China, and Egypt. There was authentic cuisine from each country. I stuffed myself with everything from baklava and hummus to pot stickers and dumplings. There was also entertainment every hour on the hour. At 11 o’clock I learned Capoeira, the Brazilian dance, and at midnight, I danced to traditional Greek music.

My favorite part of the night was my trip to India. I watched my friends get Henna tattoos, watched some of the Bollywood hit, “Om Shanti Om,” and took a picture with my friends (see below) with the Passport Ball elephant.

The Passport Ball was a huge success. I think that the VUcept Board, the Class of 2014, the Commons Dining Staff and everyone else who planned and prepared this AMAZING event deserve a huge thank you. It was so great. Why is my school so awesome?
