The Highlight of my Week
I am a junior with only 8 meals per week to her name. So some might ask: why do you spend 2-3 meals per week on coffee at Last Drop? While I do love coffee an inordinate amount, that is not the reason. The real reason I spend an entire meal on a cup of coffee, bagel, and muffin, is because my time there is the highlight of my week.
From the minute I wake up on Monday morning and walk into Sarratt, Ms. Anne calls me out by name. She has worked at Last Drop for as long as I can remember, and has always learned everyone’s names. She swaps quotes with students, talks about their family life, and especially supports them during tough periods. That is why this morning before my first stressful exam, I made sure to wake up an extra half hour early to have time to stop for coffee with Ms. Anne.
She makes everyone feel at home at Vanderbilt instantly–I remember freshman year when I first came to Last Drop every Tuesday and Thursday for lunch because Rand itself was insanely crowded. The women were so fun, listening to spunky music, and dancing around. My fondness for them has only grown with time. Ms. Anne even gave me a hug before Thanksgiving break because I would not be able to go home and get a hug from my mom–isn’t that wonderful?
To me, she embodies the spirit of Vanderbilt: a home away from home where people are genuinely interested in your life. There are some truly wonderful people here, and I want to take advantage of every opportunity I have to interact with them!
…Until next time! :)
