Jul. 31, 2012—Hello again from Lima! This weekend was my last in Peru, as I return home this Friday night. This weekend, we celebrated Peruvian independence day and a small group of us volunteers decided to travel down to the Peruvian desert oasis called Huacachina.

Random Vandy Memory That Popped Into My Head Today

Jul. 10, 2012—I successfully donated blood for the second time today! I say “successfully” because there’s a funny story about that. The first time I tried to donate, my iron level was too low, and the second time I could only fill half a bag so the nurses gave up.

Pencil Projects Makes My Heart Happy

May. 3, 2012—Pencil Projects is an organization at Vanderbilt that connects Vandy students with Nashville schools that have struggling students who need tutoring. My background check came back clean, so I attempted to teach 1st graders math!

Spring Break in New Orleans

Apr. 10, 2012—It's that time of year again where I share what fabulous Spring Break option I decided on this year, about a solid month after I went. It should come as not much of a shock to you that this break I once again went on a missions trip with the Vanderbilt BCM. This year, the BCM went to New Orleans, a city I had never visited, so I was extra excited to go.

ASB “Hangin’ Around” in Kyle, South Dakota and Area

Mar. 23, 2012—*Co-authored by Samantha Orland* For Alternative Spring Break this year, we went to Kyle, South Dakota to live on the Pine Ridge reservation of the Lakota Sioux and to assist in a local elementary school. The 26.5 hour car ride definitely led to ASBonding, and the service made us feel like we could make a difference, even for just a week, in the lives of the children on the reservation.
