1322 Books
This past week, Vanderbilt’s branch of Care for Aids did some outstanding work in getting our campus community involved in an influential international effort. By clicking on the link above, you’ll see the whole story about Care for Aids–what they’re about, what they do, and why. Many of my friends are involved with Care for Aids on campus, and this semester I was able to volunteer with their biannual Book Drive! The book drive takes books that students donate (textbooks as well as other books) and sells them. The proceeds then go towards building community centers in Kenya.
When giving students the quick information about what Care for Aids did, many were really surprised and donated books right then and there! As you can see from the title of this blog post, over the course of 1 week–having stations on both Commons Student Center and Sarratt Student Center, in addition to drop boxes located in various residence halls, Vanderbilt students donated a total of 1322 books to help a life-changing cause.
Yes, even amidst the crazy that is finals week, Vanderbilt students are very much dedicated to community service events (that affect both local and global communities!) Of our over 300 student organizations, the majority are community service organizations!
I love being part of a community where giving back is part of the norm :)
On another note, 2 finals down today, and one more tomorrow morning! Almost. There.
