New Year, New Semester
The Fall Semester of 2013 has begun. I am now officially a Junior in college and have passed the half-way point of my college career. Here is a preview of my junior year schedule.
This semester, I decided to take 19 hours per week, one hour more than the standard 18 hours. These classes are: Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Evolution, Spanish and Physics. Since I’m a Junior, I got to choose the classes I wanted to take and plan my schedule out accordingly. I am overall pleased with how it all turned out.
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I start my day at 9 am which I’ve found, after two years of 8 am classes, is the earliest time at which I can function. It all starts with learning about the human body and how it works in Anatomy and Physiology. Next comes more human body/animal stuff with some good old Biology. I finish up the day with Spanish 103: “Intensive Elementary” Spanish. I am yet to understand this contradiction but when I do, I will report back to y’all.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the morning begins at 9:35 am (not 9:30 am) which gives me an extra 30 minutes to contemplate during my morning shower. I start with Evolution in the Biological Building and end at 11 am. Incase you didn’t know, classes that meet on Tuesday and Thursday are 1 hour and 30 minutes long rather than an hour long since it only meets twice a week. At 11 am, I return to Spanish class. (Spanish is a 5 hour class that meets everyday of the week). Then comes the best part of the day: Lunch. At 1 pm, I finish up the day with Physics.
Outside of my school schedule, I also work in the free time that I have. I will be continuing the Undergraduate Research Assistant job I have had for the past year at the medical center in the same lab working around 10 hours a week. Also, I plan to continue work in the Managerial Studies department as a front office worker for a few hours per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
On top of all of that, I have signed up to volunteer at the Vanderbilt Hospital working two hours a week in the Emergency Room Department. I’m excited for that experience as it will be a new environment to me and it’ll be interesting to see what I experience. Thing to note is that my shift is on Tuesdays from 10 pm-12 am. Should be quite interesting indeed.
And lastly, I hope to start shadowing this semester through the Health Professions Advisory Office.
I’m in for quite a busy semester.
