Today’s topic: Diwali! Find all of the Catch-Up chronicles, including those by master blogger Nathan here!

For quite a bit of first semester, four hours of my week were spent learning a dance for Diwali. Diwali’s name comes from the Hindu festival of lights, and here at Vanderbilt the celebration takes the form of an amazing performance with skits, dancing, singing, instrument-playing and more! It’s hosted by Masala-SACE and a ton of students participate every year.

This year I was in a dance called Bhangra, which is incredibly high energy and awesome. In Bhangra you’re always moving around, and to amp up the energy, throughout the dance one can shout “brrrrah!” It was pretty different from the dance I was in last year, so learning it was a little trickier, but I had SO MUCH FUN. That’s in all caps, because I’m not sure it even captures how awesome Bhangra was.

Pretty much the most awesome group of dancers. Ever.

The best part? Everyone in my dance was amazing. I made so many new friends, and we still try and get together for dinner or lunch or Bhangra flash mobs. I’m actually really sad that I only have one more Diwali show left–time is flying by, my dear readers.

If you weren’t at the performance, never fear! You can watch the video here!
