Phi Lamb Rush!
Last week was one of my favorite weeks of the semester-my sorority, Sigma Phi Lambda, had rush! Sigma Phi Lambda is the Christian sorority on Vanderbilt’s campus. Unlike most of the other sororities you will see around campus, we are not in the Panhellenic Council, which means we are able to recruit new members during both the fall and the spring semesters. Our rush is always really fun, and it was a great way for us to meet new girls, as well as a way for the whole chapter to come together and remember why we love Phi Lamb.
Monday night was our mock chapter meeting, which consisted of worship time, a devotional given by our chaplain, and time for us to break up into small groups to discuss the devo and get to know each other. Tuesday was themed around board games, so we spent the evening laughing together while we played Apples to Apples, Clue, Harry Potter trivia, and lots more. Wednesday was everyone’s favorite night-Cupcake Challenge! We all broke off into teams and had to create a cupcake creation using a variety of icing and toppings that fit into our rush theme, which was Olympics. Since I am Vice President, I along with the other officers got to judge. I was so impressed by how creative people were! (See the photos below). Finally, Thursday was a cool down spa night. We had different nail polishes and a paraffin wax machine that girls could use while we played a movie in the background and chatted.
Rush this semester was interesting for me because I am an officer. I did a lot of behind the scenes work this year, whereas in previous semesters I have been able to just show up and participate in all the activities. It was a lot of work to make sure rush ran smoothly, but it was worth it when at the end of the week we had 8 wonderful girls choose to join our chapter! I am so excited to get to know our new members, and I can hardly wait for next semester’s rush!
