Packing: Step One

Posted by on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in General Information, Summer.

As the summer approaches it’s end, I’ve begun the first stage of my packing endeavors: cleaning my room.

As far as I am concerned, there are multiple steps to packing up and heading back to Vanderbilt.  One: clean my room.  Two: “pack”.  Three: packing does not pass mom-inspection.  Four: pack again. (better this time.)  And five: clean my room again.

This is kind of what my room looks like at the moment, except minus the food and toys, and plus a LOT of clothes.

With two days until I head back to Nashville (so soon!), I’ve begun stage one.  I’m generally a pretty messy person, so I always have to start off packing by picking up and putting away all of my clothes so that I can decide what to take to school and what to leave behind in a semi-organized fashion.  This is also the first year that I’m travelling back to Nashville alone, so the two-bag-limit is seriously inhibiting my usual packing technique.  Space is a limited commodity, and my I-might-or-might-not-need-this-so-I-better-bring-it packing theory just isn’t going to cut it this time around.

Victoria and I were just recently discussing the dilemmas of packing: for instance, how many dresses is enough dresses?  Do I need my tutu?  My lab coat?  My Mickey Mouse ears?  Such important decisions to make, and so little time to make them!

In just a couple of days, I’ll leave sunny Southern California and make my way to Nashville (also sunny, sometimes).  Time to pack is running out, so I better get to it!
