How Acting 1 Won Me Over

I am an English major with a minor in Corporate Strategy here at Vanderbilt, but, because of the flexibility Vanderbilt allows with it’s course requirements, I was able to venture out of my usual realm this semester and take Acting 1.

Now I am no acting expert or anything, but I’ve always enjoyed participating in community theatre, and acting is something I’ve always wanted more experience in but never thought I would find the time.

So when the opportunity arose for me to take Acting 1 this semester with some of my close friends, I seized it, and I’ve never been more confident in my choice!

My professor, the fabulous Jon Hallquist, combines elements of improv and traditional acting discipline to make my Tuesday and Thursday mornings the absolute best!

While I love my usual English and managerial studies classes, it’s so nice to have a break from my usual class structure and explore something fun and new, but not necessarily in my major.

The class takes place in the beautiful Neely Theatre, where most VU Theatre productions take place, and it’s an absolutely beautiful alternative to the traditional lecture hall.

So, here I am, personally endorsing Vanderbilt’s Acting 1 class as a break from the academic norms and a great opportunity to venture outside of your traditional class structure!
