Back in Chicago
I have to say being at home for the first time since early January is slightly strange. I haven’t woken up to an alarm clock in two days, a new record considering I constantly have things to do at Vandy. The first place we went after my mom and my sister picked me up from the airport was Lou Malnati’s, my favorite deep dish pizza place, so I clearly have my priorities in order. But actually, having no responsibilities is weird. I decided to take the month of May off before I head to Gatlinburg, TN for two months for STP, a program run by the Navigators, the Christian ministry I’m in at Vandy.
Due to this decision to have some time to rest, I’m rediscovering old hobbies. Yesterday I went to the library and got some books to read. This included the fifth book of the Harry Potter series, which I still haven’t finished-try not to don’t judge me too harshly. Another one of my favorite things to do at home is bake all the Pinterest desserts I’ve been pinning all semester. So last night I made these crazy cupcakes with an Oreo bottom, cookie dough filling, and a brownie frosting. They combined a ton of treats into one, in typical Pinterest-dessert fashion. I also plan on going to Blick’s Art store and loading up on canvases and paint to paint things for my suite next year.
As much as my busy life at Vandy can be stressful, I’m realizing how much I love it now that my to-do list is empty. But I’m glad I have some time to rest and watch entire seasons of TV shows without feeling guilty. Now I think I’m going to eat another one of those cupcakes. Happy summer!
