Free, Free, Free!
The first week back to school has to be one of my favorite times at Vanderbilt University. Why exactly? Because of the festivities, activities, and everything is FREE. Seriously. My week has been packed with free food, t-shirts, and other random objects. Here are a few of the upcoming activities which have a lot to offer, especially for the first-years!
- Student Organization Fair: The Student Org Fair is this upcoming Friday at the Commons Center. It starts at 3 PM and lasts until 6 PM. Not only do you get to explore all of the amazing organizations on Vandy’s campus, you can collect some serious goods. Last year I came back with a bag of makeup, a few pairs of sunglasses, and a ton of pins and keychains.
- VPB Palooza: This event is hosted on Friday night at the Student Life Center. The event kicks off with a pep rally at 9:30 PM. There will be a performance by Ben Rector, country line dancing, a photo booth, a screening of The Avengers, and tons of comfort food provided by the famous Loveless Café. It’s a great way to spend your first Friday night on campus!
- Night at the Frist: This event is a party for Vandy’s first-year class. It is hosted by the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The exhibits in the museum are opened for the Vanderbilt first-years to explore. In addition, there is the art creation station where you can create crafts to take home. An array of desserts are provided, and there is a dance floor for those who want to just get up and dance. The Night at the Frist gives a small glimpse of all that downtown Nashville has to offer!
Well, those are a few of the many events going on this week. They provide a ton of opportunities for having a great time and meeting new people. For the first-years, it is the first week of school, and the opportune moment to have a little fun. These three events provide entertainment, food, and other free items at both on campus and off campus venues. I encourage attending, and having the best time!
