Kissam Pottery Party
Three Sundays ago (I know, I know, I’m late.), my friend Shilpa and I got to paint pottery for free, thanks to a program offered to students that live in Kissam!
All we had to do was show up in the lobby of Mims at 3pm, and pottery was ours! We went to Brushfire Pottery Studio (in cabs paid for by Kissam), and we each got $20 to spend on whatever we wanted to paint–Shilpa and I picked mugs (we wanted to be practical…there’s only so much space in our dorm rooms.
I was quite tempted to paint a gnome, but let’s be real, ceramic gnomes have no purpose.) We spent the next two hours meticulously painting our creations, and our RA friend Sid even used his $20 to paint an adorable plate for his sister, who’s graduating from middle school this year. (all together now: awww.)
Now that classes are almost over (well, they’re over now.) and the thought of finals is breathing down all of our necks (but now we’re in the midst of them…), taking two hours out of my busy Sunday to relax and have fun painting pottery with my friends was a great way to suspend reality for a bit and pretend that I don’t have five hundred things to do in the next two weeks.
(p.s.– I am now halfway done with finals and final papers! Yippee!)
