An hour of calm.
College is stressful. This is particularly true of Mondays for me, as I have class from 9-4 with only an hour break, and then a meeting afterwards. By the time I make it through two more classes on Tuesday, I tend to feel a little stressed that the week isn’t even halfway over.
That’s where yoga comes in. As of 3 weeks ago, I started taking a beginner’s yoga class with a few of my friends on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30. Vanderbilt’s Student Recreation Center (aka “the rec”) offers tons of classes, ranging from “Awesome Abs” to “Pilates” and more—and the best part is, they’re free to Vanderbilt students.
I’ve never done yoga before, but each class I’ve been to has been welcoming to newcomers. Yoga mats are provided and the instructors always encourage us to go at our own pace, and only do what we feel comfortable doing. Classes have been both calming, and a good work out so I’m excited to continue them the rest of the year.
