Practice MCAT

Posted by on Sunday, February 5, 2012 in Academics.

Yesterday morning, instead of finally catching up on my sleep, I woke up at 8 am to take the MCAT. Not the real thing, thank god, but a practice test administered by Kaplan.

Earlier in the week, I had gotten an email from VSG saying that Kaplan would be giving free practice tests for the MCAT, GRE, LSAT, GMAT, DAT, PCAT, and OAT (I don’t know what half of those mean…). I figured I might as well try it because I’m taking the MCAT in August, so this way I could get a feel for the format…and it was free!

I walked to Wilson yesterday and was directed to the computer lab. I didn’t even realize they gave the MCAT on computers sometimes, so that was good to learn. Kaplan had shortened the test (so it wouldn’t take 4.5 hours) by taking out the writing portion and a few passages per section, but other than that, everything was the same. First was physical sciences, which involves general chemistry and physics, then verbal reasoning, and last was biological sciences, which involves biology and organic chemistry.

Considering I haven’t even taken physics yet (not to mention reviewed anything from general chemistry last year), I was pretty happy with my score. It’s nice to have an idea of where I’m starting and what my weaknesses are. So even if I didn’t do homework for the rest of the day, I’d still call it a productive Saturday. Just another great opportunity offered by Vandy!
