Go Greek
This time last year, I was blogging about going through recruitment and joining a sorority. I hate to sound like a broken record but recruitment has taken up most of my free time for the last week, so I figured it would be the easiest thing to blog about. Of course, this year I’m on the opposite side of recruitment. I don’t have to walk from house to house in the cold but I still get to talk to a bunch of great girls who pass through the AOII house.
So far, we are in between Philanthropy Round and Entertainment Round. The schedule is pretty different this year since we started class on Monday, rather the usual Wednesday (but now we get Martin Luther King, Jr. Day off!):
Saturday, Jan 7th: Display Round—Each girl visited every house for 15 minutes to get a feel for the sorority.
Sunday, Jan 8th: Philanthropy Round—The sisters got to know the potential new members better while also telling them about their philanthropy (usually crafts were involved).
Mon, Jan 9th—Thurs, Jan 12th: First week of classes, no rounds. This was especially helpful as I still haven’t completely finalized my schedule (almost there though!).
Friday, Jan 13th: Entertainment Round—My favorite! Sisters sing, dance, and perform a skit to get the girls excited about each house.
Saturday, Jan 14th: Pref Round—Each potential new member can only visit three houses by now and tries to figure out where they feel most comfortable. The sisters tell stories about why they chose their sorority, how it has affected them, and what sisterhood means to them. I’m also looking forward to this night because I get to share with others how happy AOII has made me and how special my sisters are.
Sunday, Jan 15th: Bid Day! Each girl finds out what house has offered her a bid and joins her new sisters for a fun activity, like bowling or dancing.
Entertainment Round is tomorrow night, and we’ve been practicing all week, but I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m in a song and a dance, and I honestly haven’t really had an opportunity to perform since high school, so it’s awesome to be able to do that again.
I’m also SO excited to get new members. As much fun as it is to be the baby, I’m ready to meet all the freshmen and get a little sister for my AOII family. I can’t wait to spoil that girl.
