A Heartbreaking Loss

Posted by on Saturday, October 29, 2011 in Athletics.

Today was a sad day for Vanderbilt football. We lost to No. 10 Arkansas by a score of 28-31. Despite the score, I’d say that we have a lot to be proud of. I’m not a College Football Analyst, so I am not going to mention the game-changing turnover or the missed short field goal as time expired. You can never attribute a loss (or even a win) to one moment. A football game is 60 minutes long. Minute 1 is just as important as minute 60.

Let’s talk about the good parts of today’s game.

1. The game started at 11:21. The student section was near-full by noon. Finally, the Commodores have the support of the student body.

2. Casey Hayward should have had 4 interceptions. Sure, he didn’t have any, but those were four balls that the Arkansas receivers didn’t have.

3. The weather was BEAUTIFUL.

4. James Franklin tweeted this morning. “How do u read this OPPORTUNITYISNOWHERE, my guys read it as OPPORTUNITY IS NOW HERE! Life is about perception, we have changed ours! Go Dores!” Here’s to the best coach in college football.

Hopefully, the team will view this game as a learning experience. If I was a college football analyst, I would say that this game was Vanderbilt’s all the way through. We just couldn’t hold on at the very end. Next time, though, we will.

A beautiful day for Vandy football
