Alpha Male Benefit
Each sorority and fraternity has a fall benefit, and ours was today! AOII Live Presents: Alpha Male was basically a male pageant that raised over $7,000 for the Arthritis Foundation.
It started with an outfit of choice, in which boys from different fraternities walked down the runway with some sisters wearing dresses by Leona. Then they showed off their talents, which ranged from playing guitar and singing, to beatboxing, to baking a pie, to dancing to dubstep. Lastly, they answered two questions, like “What’s your TV guilty pleasure?” (Desperate Housewives) and “If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?” (Beyoncé). Finally, the votes were counted and one man was deemed the “alpha male.”
A really fun part of our benefit, though, was that tons of sisters performed dances intermittently throughout the competition (we actually had six dances total). I was in one of the groups and it was so exciting to perform for my friends. One of the them even caught it on tape so it’s posted on YouTube if anyone’s curious/bored: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEzmbHdSx1I&feature=channel_video_title
Alpha Male provided an excuse to dress up and was a great change of pace from a normal Vandy weekend—not to mention how inspiring it was for the community to come together and raise that much money.
