YAY! I HAVE A REAL PERSON INTERNSHIP!
Okay, Vanderbilt is awesome. I know I say this a lot, but this time I mean it lots and lots.
As summer approaches, the looming stress of impending finals and finding summer internships hovers like a cloud over the otherwise sunny Vanderbilt campus.
I am no exception to this epidemic. Over the past few weeks, I have been running around campus trying to gear up for finals as well as find a marketing internship in Nashville for the summer.
While for so many students at any college, this can be an absolutely daunting task. Internships are always competitive, and it gets worse every year (think college admissions stress–every summer!)
However, Vanderbilt knows this. Oh boy, do they know this, and they have so many tools in place to help students secure internships for the summer.
The Center for Student Professional Development will gladly help you build your resume and will send you in the right directions as far as connecting with alumni and beginning the internship search goes. Plus, everyone in this office is SO NICE, and they want to help you present yourself to employers in the best way possible! It’s like having a personal career coach FOR FREE! This office is definitely one of my favorite resources on Vandy’s campus.
Then there’s Vanderbilt’s two online job boards:
DoreWays hosts internship and job listings across the country from employers who are looking for Vanderbilt students! There are listings for almost every industry possible, and the website makes it so easy to apply for any of the internships you’re interested in! It’s an amazing resource to access internship opportunities that may otherwise be difficult to find information on.
HireADore is another fabulous internship resource Vandy students have! This website also hosts internship and job listings, but are more centered on local Nashville listings. And this is where I found my current internship for the summer!!!!
I applied for a Marketing and Communications internship through Vanderbilt’s own Owen School of Management, and I just found out that I got the job! A paid internship! In the field I want to work in! How cool is that!
So, thanks to HireADore, and thanks to Vanderbilt,I just left all the stress of finding an internship behind me!!
Now I just have to finish up these finals…
