Even Nashville Loves Ice
Nashville, notorious for it’s country music has another side to it, an icy, cold, ferocious side only unleashed at the Bridgestone Arena when the Nashville Predators take to the ice. Our beloved team here in Nashville is making a playoff push and they are striving to find their place amongst the Western conference’s elite. We are sitting in 6th place, 13 points off the lead pace set by our rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks. One of the unique things about the Predators and Vanderbilt is that we share something in common, we use Centennial Sportsplex!
Right across the street from Vanderbilt is Centennial Park. If you have not heard of the park, it contains the only scale model of the Parthenon in the world! The Sportsplex is next to the park and has tennis courts, swimming pools, and two ice rinks! Vanderbilt Club Hockey and the Vanderbilt Figure Skating club use these facilities for their practice and competitions. The Predators hold their practices there as well! Their practices are open on weekend mornings and sometimes, when there is no Vanderbilt basketball game, lacrosse match, tennis gathering, or baseball game, I will stroll the two blocks in beautiful morning sunshine and watch these guys play.
If you ask me, there is not one school that gives you such a plethora of sporting options and opportunities to become involved in supporting a team of your choice so close to where you live. Plus, they even allow speed skating at the rink twice a week! We have a winter fever, and its got me addicted!
