Make it work!
This evening, I went to see Tim Gunn speak at the Langford Auditorium here at Vanderbilt. Tim Gunn is a fashion consultant best known for his mentorship to competing designers on the hit TV show Project Runway. He’s also Liz Claiborne’s chief creative officer and the author of two books.
Langford was packed, so unfortunately I didn’t get many good pictures of Gunn because I sat relatively far in the back (always arrive early to events in Langford if you can), but his talk was awesome! Tim Gunn is remarkably funny and told how he came to be a mentor on Project Runway and about his time working at Parsons The New School for Design. He talked about the difficulty of “taking the high road” in industries such as fashion and entertainment, and concluded the evening with a Q&A with the audience.
It was cool to see how honest Tim Gunn was, and how his reality-television persona is really what he’s like in real life. The event was hosted by the Vanderbilt Programming Board and was free to Vanderbilt students! It was definitely an opportunity I’m glad I took advantage of.
