Spring Football
It’s in the air. That’s right, winter workouts are a thing of the past and spring football is under way! Over the course of the past week, most SEC schools returned to the practice fields in preparation for another year of college football. Being from Auburn, I follow my Tigers religiously but I have started to become more interested in following our Commodores this spring because of the recent coaching change.
This past year, Vanderbilt hired Maryland Offensive Coordinator James Franklin to succeed Robbie Caldwell as head coach of the Vanderbilt University Football Team. The Vanderbilt Commodores have been back on the practice fields since spring practice opened last Friday, March 18th. After a series of practices and scrimmages, the spring season will end with the annual Vanderbilt Black and Gold Spring Game on April 17th.
Considering the time constraints that Franklin had for adjusting to a head coaching position and recruiting for Vanderbilt, I have been very impressed with what he has accomplished so far. He has been very active on campus since his arrival. He has spoken with Greek Life and attended sporting events to encourage us to attend football games next semester. I am excited about Franklin’s optimism but we will have to wait and see what happens in September. In the mean time, Franklin’s fellow coaches and players are working towards a successful 2011 college football season.
