Cafe Con Leche!!
Every year, the Vanderbilt Association of Hispanic Students (VAHS) puts on a performance called Cafe Con Leche with some of the hottest Latin dancing! This year’s theme was “Meet Los Padres.” The VAHS president was Teresa Temkin this year, and the co-chairs of the performance were the Ojeda twins (all 3 dear friends of mine).
Cafe took place Saturday night 6-8pm at Langford auditorium. The auditorium was filled with people from the Vanderbilt community, Nashville community, and the performers’ families. It’s a great way to learn a dance (that you may have never participated in) for free! You don’t have to have prior experience; you’ve only got to have a good attitude.
The dances included: Cumbia y Mapale, Faculty Dance (a dance by two of our faculty – it was amazing!), Merengue, Capoeira Samba, Hip Hop, Tango, Bachata, Ramirez Band, Cha Cha, and the Salsa. Many of my friends performed, and it was really fun to see them “get their groove on.”
Afterwards, performers and audience members could go to the Cafe AfterParty, which took place at one of Nashville’s famous music venues: BBKing’s. Overall, a great annual event put on by VAHS.
