Dinner and Some Movies

This weekend was a long weekend in observance on MLK Day. Monday was fully programmed with optional activities in observance of the holiday. I attended a watching and discussion of the Inauguration in Rand, for example. Because of the long weekend, I was able to indulge in dinner off campus and some movies.

On Sunday night, my friends and I decided to eat at Pharmacy Burger Parlor and Beer Garden. It’s a fairly new spot in East Nashville and I am basically a regular. They are reallyaccommodating to large parties and they have a big menu- so all of my picky friends are easily satisfied. After devouring our meals, we decided to see Zero Dark Thirty in theaters. Believe it or not, going to the movies is one of the things that I miss most when I am here at school. It is really hard to coordinate everyone’s schedule, find a car, and choose a movie that everyone wants to see. Also, the movies are generally expensive, so there is added incentive to skip out. BUT, I do have a solution to the last problem. The Sarratt Box Office actually sells discount tickets to Regal Cinemas. For only $6.50 (on the card), we can buy red coupons that are  redeemable at the box office and they never expire. For some movies, there is a $1.00 upcharge, but $7.50 is still a much better deal than the $12.00 it usually costs to see a movie these days.

On a totally separate but related note, this semester, I am enrolled in German Fairy Tales. Many of my friends are in this class because it fulfills the International requirement for AXLE. For the course, we are required to watch a number of films. Screenings are held on Tuesday nights, but they are not mandatory, as long as we watch the movies on our own. My friends and I decided to watch the first assigned film, Werewolf of London, in a Towers suite on our day off from school. It was the perfect combination of scholarship and social gatherings.

Overall, I had a great movie-filled weekend.
