Vanderbilt Football WINS on the Road
Last night, the Vanderbilt Commodores beat the Missouri Tigers 19-15! This marked Vanderbilt’s first SEC win of the season. To make things even sweeter, this was the first time that the Commodores have faced the Tigers since the Tigers joined the SEC.
I was relieved that the team was away this weekend, since I was home for fall break. Believe it or not, I actually got to watch the game from home because it was a nationally broadcast game. My mom cooked dinner (steak and creamed spinach- my favorite foods, of course) and my entire family watched together. We cheered on the Commodores and watched them rally back from a 6-0 deficit. While watching with my family, I got a new perspective of Vanderbilt football thanks to the commentators, but mostly thanks to my dad. Here are some of my insights:
- Zac Stacy plays intelligently. On the last third down of the game, Stacy not only ran for the first down, but he also stopped before he was pushed out of bounds to keep the clock running.
- Jordan Rodgers can catch! He caught a pass from Zac Stacy good for 24 yards and a first down out of the wildcat formation.
- If Vanderbilt continues to use trick plays and its special teams, the Commodores stand a chance to defeat the Florida Gators next week. Vanderbilt’s first points came from a safety. Coach Franklin called a wide variety of plays and punter Richard Kent had some great punts that pinned Missouri back deep in their own territory.
Next week, the Commodores welcome the Florida Gators. The game kicks off at 5 PM CT. It is also Vanderbilt Parents Weekend. My parents are not coming, but a lot of my friends’ parents are. It should be a lot of fun and hopefully we will come away with a win.
