WCF Welcome Back BBQ!
Last week one of the student organizations I am involved in, the Wesley/Canterbury Fellowship (WCF for short), hosted a “Welcome Back BBQ” in order to help old members re-connect with friends they hadn’t seen in awhile, and for new members to come see what we are all about!
Since Wesley/Canterbury is the Methodist/Episcopal group on campus, we hosted our barbeque in St. Augustine’s chapel, which is where we meet every week for our worship time. Despite the fact that we accidentally scheduled the BBQ so that it conflicted with one of the VUcept events (derp, our bad) we had a great turnout! I loved getting to meet all the new people and sharing conversation with them while munching on some delicious barbeque!
After eating as much food as we could, we broke off into teams in order to do an Instagram photo scavenger hunt! We were given a list of silly tasks such as ‘propose to a strager’ or ‘take a picture with a Vandy cop’ and we had to take a picture of our whole team doing each task. We then uploaded the pictures to Instagram, tagging them with our team name (Team ShamWow all the way!) and #WCF2012 so that we could see the other team’s pictures as well. My team got REALLY into this part of the evening, and we had some hilarious pictures to show from it!
After a solid 45 minutes of running around campus taking silly pictures, we ventured back to the chapel to view everyone’s photos and determine the winner. The most creative photo for each category got points for that round, and the team that had the most points at the end was declared the winner. Sadly, Team ShamWow came in 2nd, although I still say we were the winners because we definitely had the most team spirit. :)
The WCF BBQ was a great way for me to relax and have fun with my friends after a long day of classes, and I look forward to all the other fun events I along with the rest of the WCF leadership board has planned for this semester!
