Commons is ALIVE!
After an entire summer suffering empty dorms, quiet afternoons, and un-played with lawns, the subtle life that has ruled the Commons has been thwarted by the Class of 2016!
Yes, today was the highly anticipated Commons move-in day. Convoys of Vanderbilt family cars infiltrated every parking lot, the madness of the move commencing at 7AM on the nose.
As members of the Move-Crew, my fellow Crawford alums and I spent five hours mobbing cars, moving luggage, and getting to know the new additions to the Vanderbilt family!
Aside from the wonderful experience it was to give back as a Move-Crew member, I think the highlight of the day was meeting the INCREDIBLE Class of 2016. Hailing from every corner of the country, our new freshmen class is not only diverse, but they are willing and EXCITED!
Though there were a few embarrassed faces as the “CRAWFORD” chant rang through the muggy morning air, every student I encountered hopped out of their vehicle with a bright smile and an infectious energy to begin what is to be the next big chapter of their lives.
What a wonderful thing to witness.
On a sentimental note, I remember a similar feeling on my move-in day almost exactly a year ago today. Sometimes amidst the stresses of school and life, it’s easy to forget exactly why I absolutely fell in love with Vanderbilt: You are not only attending a world-class school, but you are joining a community of excellence and support. You are joining a family :)
Working beside my fellow Crawfordians of years past to serve the Crawfordians of the future and sharing in yet another sweet memory with some of my closets peers was an energizing (well, maybe not physically!) way to kick-off the new school year.
To the Class of 2016: Congrats on joining the family! May your year be truly unforgettable.
