A Post About My Life Outside the Classroom
I know I spend a lot of time blogging about my classes and giving general advice and information about Vanderbilt, but, looking back at my posts, I realized it’s been a while since I gave any personal updates about what I’m up to these days. So, without further ado, here’s a recap of my life outside the classroom!
This year, I’m living in a Towers suite- a dorm room that accommodates 6 people and includes a kitchen and common area. And let me tell you, it has been so fun. I’m living with a mix of juniors and seniors in my sorority, and it’s been great getting to know them better and to always have smiling faces to come home to at the end of the day. I’ve had the opportunity to cook more and spend more time in my room, but I’ve definitely had no shortage of socializing and time outside the dorm.
One of my favorite positions that I hold, Selections co-chair for VUcept, is actually about to wrap up, which is super sad. However, it was such a great learning experience and will definitely be remembered as one of my favorite memories outside the academic sphere. Luckily, I will be able to serve as president of this organization for the upcoming year, which is extremely exciting and what I’m sure will be an amazing opportunity for learning. In terms of other organizations, I am serving on Vanderbilt Programming Board’s the VenUe, an organization that hosts recreational events, often geared towards health and wellbeing, for students on campus. I also act as the Panhellenic Delegate for my sorority, which involves meeting with other sororities each week and acting as a liaison between my sorority and the Panhellenic Council. I’m also a member of LEAPS (Liaisons Educating and Advocating for Psychological Support), so I get to give presentations across campus about mental health and resources for wellbeing, which is extremely rewarding. Lastly, as I’ve mentioned in many blog posts in the past, I work at the Vanderbilt Medical Center, and am still loving that position.
On top of all of these activities, I am obviously active on the Inside ‘Dores website. So, if you have any questions regarding move-in or life at Vanderbilt, feel free to contact me at alex.rains@vanderbilt.edu.
