Bursting the Vanderbubble: The Music Edition

Posted by on Friday, March 4, 2016 in Music, Nashville.

Hello readers!

I’m sorry for getting a bit behind on my blogging. The truth is, I have been trapped in the cycle of midterms, bio labs, and student organizations. With so much happening on campus, it’s very easy to get never get out of this Vanderbubble. Thankfully, we’re in the Music City, so there are always opportunities to go off campus and explore Nashville.

I have a Nashville bucket list, and while I have been slowly checking items off, I have many more to go. So when my roommate’s sister was in town with extra tickets to the 2Cellos show, I had an opportunity to mark off another item from the bucket list: a concert at the Ryman Auditorium.

The Ryman is right next to the Bridgestone Arena, and while it is much smaller, its size is perfect because I got to see the artists, Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, up close. They play covers of popular songs as well as original music of different genres on their electric cellos, and their music harmoniously blends classical and modern music. From Coldplay to Michael Jackson, from Sting to original music, they had it all.

It was a full house, and it was amazing to be a part of such an energetic audience. Nashville’s musical fans made the concert even more enjoyable and electrifying. Although I didn’t know much about the duo before, I’m a new fan after their concert. This is also because 2Cellos helped me view the cello, an instrument I had only heard in classical music, in a completely new light (rockstar-ish!). I can’t wait for the next 2Cellos’ concert!
