Closing Time
According to my Vanderbilt login, I’m officially a sophomore!
I feel as if it was just yesterday that I moved into North House. I remember arguing with my parents for weeks about the idea of bringing a U-HAUL on campus (I ultimately won; we fit absolutely everything in the trunk of our car). That first night on campus, all the girls of North Four packed into the hall for our first hall meeting of the year. Looking around at all the different girls from across the country, I never imagined how much they would impact my life. From the hours spent in the library preparing for exams to the late night Parks and Rec marathons, these girls quickly became my best friends and sisters. I am so fortunate to have gotten to live with bright young women who made me laugh, challenged my thinking, and were always there to support me.
This year has not been easy. My courses were challenging and it felt like there was always something to stress over, but it’s like one of my favorite quotes: “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.” Looking back on the year, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished. Every paper, every chapter of reading, every test is not just another step in my college career, but a step towards being the best history teacher I can be.
If I came into this year with any worry that Vanderbilt wasn’t the place for me, that vanished quickly. During my first year of college, I grew intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally surrounded by passionate, caring peers. I wouldn’t want to call anywhere else my home away from home.
Much love,
Gabi
