Hey ED1, Now You’re In On the Fun!
Judging by the flood of nostalgia, photos of younger siblings sporting Vandy gear and admissions letters (via email now — when did that happen?!), and statuses tagging the newest crop of Commodores on all of my social media feeds, ED1 decisions are here!
As I get closer and closer to senior status (and then the real world soon enough), the last thing I really need to see is the Class of TWENTY NINTEEN get their admissions decisions, but judging by how happy and excited everyone is, I guess I can make an exception and come to terms with the fact that your first and my last move-in will be here in really no time at all.
Every year Vanderbilt’s newest class gets better and better, and you guys (or y’all, as you will hear quite frequently down here) have so much to be proud of. So CONGRATULATIONS!
Sit back, relax, and take a breath because you made it here. Aside from knowing where you’re heading in the fall, ED also gives you another great advantage — time. Make the most of it now, while you’re still in high school, living at home (for the most part), and with the friends that many of you have had for all of your lives. But also take advantage of what these extra few months of knowing where you’ll be gives you. Take some time in the next couple months to think about where you’re going and what you want to do there.
You all had reasons you wanted to be at Vandy more than anywhere else — enough of them to make you sign an ED agreement — so now that you’ve got one foot in the door, start thinking about what you want to do once you’re all the way in. A school like Vandy is FULL of opportunities and experiences that are unlike anything you have or will experience again in your life, and I guarantee that putting a little thought into what you might be looking for beforehand goes a long way in helping you find the ones that will make all the difference for you.
