The Great Apartment Hunt
Good news, dear readers–it looks like I’ll be staying in Nashville for at least a little while post-grad! More on that later, most likely, but this brings me to something that has been taking up most of my free time: apartment hunting.
Finding a place to live over the summer is tricky in Nashville, so let me share with you some tips and tricks as this is my second round of finding a short-term place:
1. The internet is your friend. I particularly find Craigslist to be useful, just beware of scams! There are also some iPhone apps that are handy in finding places nearby that are available.
2. Vandy is helpful too! I recently found out there’s a Vandy classifieds page and the off-campus housing referral site is a great resource to have as well.
3. Act fast. Nashville is a growing city and consequently housing goes super quickly. This is both a good and a bad thing: it means there are new places available every day, but they’re also snatched up quickly.
4. Ask around! You never know when the friend of a friend of a friend might just turn into a lead! Seriously though, let people know you’re apartment searching–word of mouth goes a long way.
5. It will work out. The prospect of having nowhere to call home is terrifying, but don’t worry–in the end, these things have a way of working themselves out. In time, you’ll find somewhere to live and it’ll end up being great! Just stick with it.
Hopefully these tips help you if you’re in any sort of housing search. I’ve got my current search narrowed down to a few options so I’m feeling good!
