Declaring your major!
Even though I still had an entire semester to ponder the heavy, eternal life questions (which include but are unfortunately not limited to, “What am I going to do after I graduate?”) and declare a major (it has to happen before spring break of your sophomore year) I decided, earlier this semester, to seize the day and do just that!
As it turns out, that gnawing electrifying feeling some people call intrepidity does come with its perks. All of a sudden I found myself in a flurry of activity, contacing potential advisers and having documents signed. It was all a little overwhelming, to be honest, and even though I can still undeclare or relegate either of my majors to a minor, the fact that I had effectively set my college career into stone was both terrifying and exhilarating. I was now a proud Arts and Science student on a double major track in physics and creative writing.
To this day I am terrified about the remotest possibility that I had made a wrong decision. I honestly don’t know where either of these tracks will lead me but at the moment I am investing intellectually (and sometimes even emotionally) in the academic pursuits of my choice, unhindered by any sort of expectations or limitations. I still have to do AXLE, of course, but that’s fun!
