ROC and Roll- The Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge

Posted by on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in Athletics, General Information, Nashville, Student Life.

Have you ever wondered how well you would do on a TV show like Wipeout? Well, two weekends ago I got a taste of what it would be like to do a game-show inspired obstacle course at the ROC (ridiculous obstacle challenge) Race.

I crossed the finish line by sliding down this huge inflatable slide!

The ROC Race is a national race that has been traveling to major cities the past few months. It is like the Color Run, but instead there are obstacles throughout the course. The race was at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, which is a short drive from Vanderbilt’s campus. The ROC was 3.1 miles and consisted of ten obstacle courses throughout the fairgrounds. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do many of the obstacles, but I was able to get through all of them except for one! My favorite was probably the concree-stadores, which was basically hurdling over concrete blocks. The final obstacle was a large inflatable slide that you had to slide down to cross the finish line. The race was full of laughs, and I got super wet. At the end there was a foam machine, and we got to take pictures and play.

Hannah, Adria, and I playing in the foam!

The best part? It was probably getting another t-shirt to add to my growing collection. The shirt is really cute, and I can’t wait to wear it. I was impressed by my ability to do the obstacles, and I hope there is a similar opportunity coming to Nashville that I can participate in!
