A Brunchy Bunch!
I need to brag about my city…just little bit. Yeah, its gotten a lot of awards for having the countries tastiest food trucks, nomiest restaurants, crunchiest brunches, and divine coffee shops. So far, I have been chomping, chewing, slurping, and sipping my way through Nashville. I recently picked up a pamphlet called Nashville Originals detailing all of the wonderful restaurants in Nashville. Pretty much all of the ones listed made a bucket-list kind of impact on me. This weekend I got to try out Marché, a little brunch place that everyone says is to die for, tastebud-wise. Located in East Nashville, this Europeanesque café is usually packed with locals and a couple of well-read tourists who know this is the place to go. I thought our wait was going to take forever, but, as soon as we walked in, we got a seat! (Tip: you may want take a later lunchtime slot)
One turkey burger, topped with cranberry chutney and goat cheese (creamy and tangy to perfection) squeezed between a perfectly buttered and toasted Provence Bakery bun…I was in food heaven. My friend got a café latte and it was adorable…they served it to her in a huge cup that didn’t have a handle and looked more like a soup bowl! Man! These people are really serious about their coffee!
So, I am trying to do this southern thing and warm up to the idea of grits. My dad thinks it is hilarious that I still think they are very odd and every time he goes to a restaurant in Nashville, he asks for grits in the most southern, R rolling accent his South African english will allow. Yeah dad, one marché trip later…I kind of like grits now. They have made me a believer. Next on my bucket list: try out the Garden Brunch Café located in Germantown. I am firm in the thought that brunch should be served all-day, every-day, and every-meal…if the stomach will allow.
