The Perfect Parents’ Weekend
Normally AOII has a Dad’s Weekend in the fall and Mom’s Weekend in the spring, but this year we decided to group them together and have Parents’ Weekend. Since Knoxville is only three hours away, both my parents were able to visit me this weekend and it was just what I needed.
On Friday night, my parents arrived after dinner (so I had time to wrap up a group meeting) and my mom and I headed straight for the Choral Prism Concert. My little from AOII is in Concert Choir and told me about how all the choirs on campus were coming together so they could have the most support, and the concert ended up being amazing! It was in Ingram Hall (which had a full house) and included performances by Blair Chamber Choir, Vanderbilt Symphonic Choir, Vanderbilt Concert Choir, and the Melodores (but sadly no Nathan). The music was beautiful and it was great to see so many people I know all on one stage.
After stopping by Starbucks for some hot apple cider, we called it a night. On Saturday, we journeyed to the Opry Mills Mall for the first time and my mind was blown. It was one of the biggest malls I’ve ever seen and had a great variety of stores, not to mention tons of outlets with good discounts. The J. Crew Outlet, in particular, was my favorite considering students/teachers get an additional 15% off.
After shopping for a few hours, we went to see the movie Warm Bodies, which didn’t disappoint. We then picked up a few of my friends, Deanna and Grace, and went to dinner at Boscos. I had always seen the sign for Boscos in Hillsboro but never actually been inside til last night, and it was a really cool place!
This morning I met my parents for brunch at the AOII house, we made our usual trip to Target, and they left by noon. Even though a weekend doesn’t seem like a lot of time, it’s the perfect amount when you need a little pick-me-up between Psychopharmacology and Biological Basis of Mental Disorders tests. This weekend basically recharged me until Spring Break…bring it on February!
