Nashville Winters
People at home often ask me about winter in Nashville. This is my third winter here and I can honestly say that I still do not have a concise definition for Nashville winter. My freshman year, it snowed during finals. Last year, it didn’t get below 40 degrees at all. This year, I wore shorts on Saturday. Today, though, it is about 35 degrees and raining.
I know what you’re thinking- “35 degrees and raining is not ideal. And, with all of this unpredictability, how will I ever know what to wear or bring to school?” At first, this worried me too. I was pretty unprepared for the snow my freshman year. As a Florida girl, my best attempt consisted of my rain boots and layers that made me look like the Michelin man. Fear not, friends. Nashville’s beautiful days far outweigh its mediocre (crummy) days. During the gross days, I stay inside (usually curled up in bed) and take advantage of the plethora of indoor spaces that Vanderbilt has to offer. These spots are ideal for studying, eating and lounging.
Today, for example, I walked to Commons in the morning to use the gym. Then, I did some work in the dining hall while I waited for some friends to have lunch. After lunch, I walked to Stevenson Center (the science and math building) for class. Now, I am sitting in Stevenson library, which is easily accessible through indoor hallways, catching up on some homework and blogging before I head to a review session also in this building. I have tried to make the most of the bad weather by finding new convenient study spots and improving my efficiency.
The best news of all is that the temperature is supposed to get into the mid to upper 50s by Saturday. For now, though, I am totally content and bundled.
