Nail Parties
After a long week of work, my friends and I love to have nail parties in my room. Most of my friends on the hall have singles so everyone will pile into our double for a nice study break. My roommate, Sophie, is quite the nail artist, and everyone will pick out designs for her to paint.
Throughout the semester, we’ve accumulated a decent selection of nail polish, and Sophie has also bought dotting tools and thin brushes for the more complex designs. The first step is picking out the design, which proves to be more difficult than it sounds. Most of the time I end up scouring the internet for creative designs, many of which seem impossible. Somehow, in the end, we’ll find a cool design or pattern and get to work.
Often times we’ll paint our nails for a specific occasion. For example, I had Vandy themed nails at our first football game and Sophie painted her nails with cute paw prints for Dog Days at Centennial Park. Sophie painted a bunch of my friends’ nails with a Halloween theme in October too. I always enjoy seeing all of the different designs that she paints, ranging from Cheetah print to apples.
Painting our nails is always the perfect break from work, and is even better at the end of a long week. I’ve found that finding stress relievers throughout the week ends up making me more productive. While the semester is almost over, there is still plenty of work to be done. But setting time aside to take breaks is so important. With finals coming up there are plenty of study breaks happening around campus, even a huge stress fest night. I’m already planning what nail design I want for finals, right now I’m thinking snowflakes.
