It’s All Over. How I Survived Finals.
Today, I am coming to you from my kitchen table in warm and sunny Miami Beach. I’m sorry to brag, but nothing compares to the euphoria of finishing finals each semester. If I’m being honest, here, I will say that this semester my finals weren’t actually that bad. But either way, finals are finals and I lived to tell the tale.
As you know, I am pre-med, but I am a Communications Studies major. Since I am done with the pre-med classes, I take a few extra science classes, but I mostly focus on classes for my major. I love my major because I am gaining the skill sets for reading and speaking eloquently, which I would not build if I only took science classes. Along with my shift in course selection came a shift from exams to papers.
This semester, I had three final papers due. I ended up writing over 30 pages in just over one week, which is a new record for science student like myself. When I turned in my three final papers on the last day of class, I shifted my focus to studying for my three exams. I got really lucky because only one of the three exams was cumulative. The other two were just last tests.
For the first time in my college career, I felt like mastering the material for my exams was manageable. I guess this is mostly because I did not procrastinate. I started my papers over Thanksgiving break, and then I created a realistic finals study schedule. Also for the first time in my college career, I allowed myself to take study breaks. Many of my good friends are going abroad next semester, (LUKE DON’T LEAVE!), so this week consisted of some sad goodbyes. I’ve learned that college is about more than just school and grades, so I knew that I had to take some study breaks to be with my friends that I won’t see until August. These breaks made my studying more productive anyway, so it was a win-win.
I am home and I am done. I cannot wait to see what next semester brings!
