I’m Gonna Miss It Here

Posted by on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in College Life, Student Life, Study Abroad, Studying, Winter Break.

With the cold weather seeming like its here to stay a while and all of my friends starting to head home for Winter Break, a constant thought in everything I do has been “I’m going to miss Vandy next semester.”  (For those who missed my blog post First Post/ I’m Going to Rome! I will be studying abroad for the Spring semester at the ICCS in Rome.)  I hear friends planning trips for Spring Break and all of the things they can’t wait to do together next semester and I realize how much I’m going to miss being here for even one semester.  Five semesters in a row here has been amazing and I really can’t imagine what it will be like to spend an entire semester studying somewhere else.

But then I remind myself where I’m going to be.  I’m going to be in ROME!  Surrounded by the remains of Classical history and getting the opportunity to immerse myself in a whole different culture.  I am so excited to go on my trip, that any feelings of doubt or missing Vandy are quickly forgotten when I start to think about all of the sites I’ll get to see.  Life at Vanderbilt is wonderful and there are plenty of sites to go see, but I am thrilled to get a chance to see all of the places and pieces of art that I have only read about in textbooks.

And I remind myself that I’ll be back at Vandy senior year for my 6th and 7th semesters here. Even after spending an entire semester away, I will be able to come back to Vandy and see all of my friends, and catch up, and get back into campus life.  I imagine that my return to campus will even be improved by the semester away, since I will no doubt miss my Vandy life while in Rome.  And everytime I miss it, I will remind myself how amazing it is to be in Rome for 1/8 of my college experience and how great senior year will be with an amazing study abroad experience under my belt.

I will no doubt miss Vandy, but I am sure looking forward to Rome!
